Litterpicking and stream cleaning: Can you help?
We're collaborating with The Rotary Club of Bourne End and Cookham to collect litter and stream cleaning. Want to join us?
Each year we join Plastic Blitz, which is an annual citizen science-led event that aims to engage as many community groups and Environment Agency teams as possible with taking part in a simultaneous litter pick and data collection activity around their local river. The data collected on categorised waste feeds into the EU Preventing Plastic Pollution project.
What we do
- Litter picking of illegally discarded public waste items in the countryside, water courses and streets.
- Promote awareness to the lasting dangers of discarded litter.
- Promoting a reduction in wildlife suffering and casualty numbers.
- Reducing the deadly possibility of transmission of micro plastics up the wildlife food chain via predation.
- Hold an index of Community and Environmentally likeminded volunteers who are keen to improve their local areas.
- Generate a positive visual and behavioural effect on the local Environment.
- Promote a positive practice and habit of dealing with personal litter.
- Minimise the possibility to human health and the possible costs to the NHS.
- Helping the local Economy by voluntary clearing litter which would otherwise be costly to Taxpayers.
